Joann attended the Guildhall School of Music on a singing scholarship where she gained a Performers A.G.S.M.. Her scholarship was then extended a further year for her to add a Teachers qualification resulting in a Teachers A.G.S.M.
She then worked for many years singing both on the concert platform and in light entertainment. From Principal Boy in Panto’ to dubbing voices for skaters in Ice Shows.
In 1957 with the birth of the first of her three children, Joann began to concentrate more on teaching. Running her own studio in Hampstead.
During those early teaching years she developed her own particular vocal technique. In the 1970’s Joann was confronted with singers worried about damage to their voices due to singing styles, she was also consulted by professional singers under contract to record companies and promoters for her technical advice.
In addition, she has taught Class and Solo Singing in 3 Drama schools.
Trained 4 W.V.S. choirs.
Taught Popular and Classical singing in 5 Adult Further Education Centres
Was invited to Malaysia in 1995 to form a State Choir and train soloists.
Working there for several months every year for three years.
Now with her studio in Central London Joann continues teaching singing and passing on her skills and wealth of musical knowledge.
